Architecture as a form of expression

Each person thinks differently and feels differently. We were given the gift to EXPRESS ourselves so that we could understand each other. Expressions were created by god so that we could convey to each other thoughts and feeling in the most simplest way without putting much effort. Otherwise the world wouldn’t have come so far. If I may ask, what kind of form of expression would you like to use, a lot of you may say painting, dancing, writing, acting.

But I know what I would definitely say – ARCHITECTURE. You might think how one could express themselves with architecture and you may not realize it, but everyone unknowingly does express themselves through it. From Shah Jahan expressing his love in the form of Taj Mahal to a middle aged man buying a cottage in the farmlands so that he can keep his childhood memories alive, Architecture does play an important role. In earlier times Romans used to make large structures to display their power and mightiness. They used it as a tool to instill fear and respect in the hearts of others just by a farsighted vision. Communities express unity by making houses that are vernacular, they express their traditional values through them.

It has been carried on since the starting of time when the cave man tried to beautify his cave and its still continuing and won’t stop until the end of the time. As we have progressed in time, people have come up with different ways of imposing their expressions onto their homes with the help of Architects mirroring their minds onto the paper and from there to the real life. Buildings too express what they have been through during the wrath of time like the colossal monuments of Egypt that narrate a story of arrogant pharaohs and helpless captives and like the temples in India where carvers used to express their feelings, their lives and their beliefs by sculpting them and portraying them onto the pillars. While I was struggling through my high school I found an eccentric way to pour out the feelings somewhere, by designing homes.

The day I was feeling energetic I would 3d design the details of a wall, a little bit of mirror cluster and bunch of painting, It was really soothing and so I started to fall in love with architecture. I started observing buildings, and each one of them had a unique story, their facades seemed to express themselves , giving me an insight whether this building is bright space or a serious doom. It’s a real life working art that adds beauty to our vision and makes our life easier. It’s a style, that is worn to its own unique expression. It’s a trigger that wraps us into an invisible world. It’s a showcase of the rise and fall of an architect, trying her best to provide a spectacle and a memento. It’s an expression of one’s feelings, legacies, memories, hard work, creativity and of the mankind all together.

Architecture not only gives us a unique way of expression, it changes our perspective as well. And looking at the world through an Architect’s lens is a very beautiful and an intricate thing in itself. But most importantly, it’s timeless. The expression on our faces my not last long but the art of construction lives till the end of the time. Years may pass, the Architect might turn old and weary, and so might his building, but the expression stays alive forever to go down the history, its like a priceless and timeless, living piece of non verbal communication, which conveys a million words and thoughts for itself, reaching through the eyes of the viewers straight into their minds and hearts, and staying there embedded for the rest of their lives. And I am glad that I use this incredible form of expression and I’m proud of it.
